Not an entierly finished piece, but mostly finished (as in i haven't finished the hair or background, and im liking the way it looks at the moment.)
An oil painting on a 16"sq Windsor & Newton cavas board. A blue wash was used as a base, building up the oil in thin layers. About 15-20 hours so far i think.
I'm incredibly happy with how delicate the skin looks, and yet how much detail there is in the eyes and lips.
Although the camera doesn't do the brush work or subtlety of the piece justice, i do advise looking at it in full view, it still looks great.
Edit: A detail of this should have been added by now, but my comp/ DA has decided it wont let me do it right now.. So i'll put it up and link it here later
Wish I had that sort of talent, but everytime I try something like this, it just sort of comes out being something neo-cubist mixxed with kindergrade scribble...lol This is a nice piece.
Thanks, i think this is one of my more accurate pieces. Neo cubism is'nt a bad thing, i dont have the patience to be able to do that.. With this i started very dark with greens and purples (over the dark blue background that i covered the whole canvas with.) and built it up with lighter purples. reds and browns, tinting it to the colours there now.. I stayed well away from anything close to premade flesh tints and built up layers.
lol, thats cool, i especially saw your really bright onewith the 8 ball, thought that would look good in acrylic, or something like that.
Oils arent cruel to mistakes, complerely the opposite. I actually dropped my palette paint side down on 'in the blue' black and blue paint all over it, cleaned it to the point you'd never know in just a couple of minutes.
Thankyou, its possibly my fave painting i've done to date, though i am working on a canvas at the moment which may become my fave lol.
Glad you like, thanks
When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
